Summer Part 3

Did I mention that I love Red White and Blue? I really really do :) So, my mailbox and my front door is all patriotic and lately I have been working on my mantle.....

I shopped at home to decorate and I was so proud of myself.
I started decorating and then added along the way. I would walk away from it and then go back and do a little more!
I'm not gonna promise that I won't add or take away, but for now I like it! One of my favorites is the glass jar behind the baskets. It is full of the seashells we found when we went to Virginia Beach!

Enjoy

Well it's officially Summer! I am trying to enjoy each and every day of it!! Trying to slow down and smell the roses so to speak! :) Warm Summer nights is one of my favorites...swimming, catching fireflies (lightning bugs), hide and seek!! All the Spring blooms are gone and Summer blooms are popping up everywhere....

Father's Day Weekend

Just want to say how thankful and appreciative that I am to have a loving husband who is a wonderful father to our children! I am thankful for my dad as well! I made dad and James fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn on the cob, mac n chs and rolls for lunch today! Rootbeer floats for dessert! Made cookies too! YUM!

1968 Camaro

Okay so, yesterday we went to the car show in our town! I enjoy them....I love the old cars and just the history of it all! The cars that are in these shows are cars that our parents drove and some of them our grandparents drove! I was thinking that before that cars were a major luxury....my great grandparents drove a horse and buggy at least for a while!
1949 Ford Roadster

I want it LOL! These are some of mine and James's favorites!!
 1968 Camaro

Corvette ANYBODY KNOW THE YEAR? 50 something??

Fun! Fun! Fun! So, what do you do when you leave a car show? Of course you go to the local burger drive-in! YAY! Cheesy and Greasy! LOL!

Menu?
We have been customers to this drive-in for years and we are always tickled with our visit!

The not so fun but rewarding events of the weekend was cleaning in the garage and completely cleaning out the storage building!

Hoping that everyone has had a wonderful weekend!

Summer Part 1

I love this time of year, but actually I love every season and the opportunities they bring for celebrating! I decorated my mailbox with my favorite garden flag that I have used for several years and leftover mesh and ribbon from my wreath! The vine growing up the post is beautiful!!

I am very patriotic and love red, white and blue so I wanted to add my cookies to this post....

I made these for my dad's family reunion a few years ago. The reunion is always on July 4th weekend. They are so easy to make!

Patriotic Cookies

Bake sugar cookies from a packet or a roll and let them cool.
Mix 8oz cream cheese and 1 cup of powdered sugar for your frosting.
Frost your cookies and then add chopped strawberries and blueberries to the top.
I added the flags for a little something extra. You can find these at a Dollar Tree or Wal-Mart.

Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Enjoy

I hope you are celebrating Summer! Would love to see or hear ideas!!

101 Ways To Fix Chicken

Well not really, but we do eat a lot of chicken at our house and I am always looking for new chicken recipes. One of our favorite is Tomato Garlic and Basil chicken. My friend Candi introduced this to me.You can simply find it at your local grocery in the spice aisle.

It is a packet of marinade. I grilled it this time, but I have also cooked it in my electric skillet! Just go by the package directions on the back of the packet. It is a winner every time!

I would love to add to my chicken recipe collection so please share!

Happy grilling!

Simple Pleasures

On Tuesday the boys, myself and my mother headed out early to visit the local stock sales! This is something that we have done every Summer for several years. The stockyards is full of vendors selling everything from guns and knives, homegrown fruits and vegetables, puppies, kittens and chickens. We enjoy walking around to see all the cute critters and it's also a good place to find home grown produce at an affordable price! So, after we check out the vendors then the fun *SMELLY* part begins. Inside the barn is where the farmers bring their animals to sale at auction. Tuesday seemed especially busy....horses, goats, pigs and adorable baby pigs!! There were bulls and miniature ponies with babies etc. Oh the simple fun right here in our town! I just love raising boys and helping them explore all the farm heritage we have here. Afterwards we went to our local state park to feed the ducks.....

We took some old bread from our house and fed the ducks until the bread was all gone :) So far all of our boys like animals. My mother and dad grew up on farms. Farms where they milked the cows, went to the hen house for fresh eggs and to the smokehouse for fresh country ham YUM!
My mom can remember going to the stock sales when she was growing up. I remember going to the hen house with my Grandma Sarah and sitting in my Grandma Zola's kitchen while she churned the cream from the fresh cow's milk to make butter!
I wish that my children could have grown up knowing their Great Grandparents and been able to experience all those wonderful days on the farm :(. I just keep their memory alive by stories and pictures and we keep the boys busy exploring the joys of simple country living! I'm tickled to share in that!

Get outside and enjoy the simple pleasures that God has given us!

Micah's Kindergarten Graduation

Micah graduated from Kindergarten on May 26th.  I was happy for him and a little sad, but he enjoyed Kindergarten so much and was so happy about it all! All three of our boys have had the same teacher for Kindergarten and all three loved it!! Thanks Sis. Schooley!! There were 9 Kindergartners, 8 Eighth Graders, and 6 Seniors graduating.
The ceremony was so nice and the speaker was (in my opinion) the best one that they have had since we've been there! My parents and James's parents and brother were there. Afterwards we came home and had a grill out with ice cream cake for dessert. We spent most of the remaining part of the day preparing the pool to be opened.

(Notice that Micah's name and Kindergarten are misspelled on the cake LOL!) We celebrated all afternoon!! Then when the pool was about a foot deep or maybe not even that the boys had to jump in and splash a while :) We had a wonderful Celebration day with our little graduate!

Isaac on his Kindergarten Graduation Day! Isaiah's pictures were not digital so I don't have one of his handy:)

Red White and Oooh

Yes, I know that I have posted several times this week, but I have just had so much to blog about! Blogging doesn't take up time for me...I get an idea and I can get it done and if not I save it and come back to it!

So, it's June 1st and I always change home decor from Spring to Summer  at this time!
I have been loving all the mesh wreaths out there, so I decided to make one for Summer!!
LOVE IT!

More Summer Decor and Micah's Kindergarten Graduation coming up!

I would love to see  and hear some of your Summer or Fourth of July ideas....
