They Grow So Fast

Our oldest son Isaiah will graduate from 8th grade this year. A few days later he will turn 14! Where does time go? They. Grow. So. Fast.

Over the last few days I have went thru 14 years of pictures. How my heart was warmed by all of those wonderful memories and the thoughts and dreams of more to come.

I wanted to share a few pictures...

I am sharing a few now and will share some more as we get closer to graduation and birthday.

Today I took his 8th grade pictures...

I want to treasure this time and treasure all the times ahead for I know it is a great blessing! He is growing up to be such a handSome young man. He is an excellent student, very responsible, and most importantly I believe he has heart for the Lord!

Go hug your children and hold them tight for they are a gift from God!

A Walk In My Yard

I love to walk thru my yard in the Springtime! I enjoy seeing all of my flowers as they peep their little heads up out of the ground. Today I am taking a walk, why don't you join me?
This is my flower garden. It is in the middle of my yard. When we bought our house here the garden was already there. I wish I had the before picture handy...any way it had too much stuff and was over grown really bad! I spent the first 2 or 3 seasons digging it up and redoing. What you are seeing is Daffodil greenery ( they already bloomed ) Day Lily greenery and Zebra Grass. Everything is so lush and green here!
I had promised pictures of my Creeping Phlox. I have Irises and Day Lilies greening up here as well.
Do you see my Hyacinth in the background? .75 at Lowe's =)

Everything has a fresh coat of mulch now!

Our Dogwood Trees are in full bloom! We have experienced some cool temps over the last week. Dogwood Winter.
A few shots of a Dogwood across the road. I was just reminded by these pics that I am needing some grass seed =(
I took this from Isaac and Micah's bedroom window.

Most of my Daffodils have bloomed beautifully and died out, but these Tazetta Daffodils stuck around a while longer.
These are my favorite in the daffodil family. They have several blooms to a stem and are soft in color.

Did you enjoy our walk?

Thanks for stopping by. I love hearing from you and what you are in to. Any flowers blooming at your house?

Til next time...

Tulips On The Table

I recently purchased some red tulips at Lowe's on clearance for 1.75. I knew that I would plant them, but they spent some time on my breakfast table before going to the flower garden.
I had a hurricane vase that is Home Interior. My mom purchased  it at our famous park yard sale for 1.00. It was a perfect fit.
I had some burlap ribbon handy, so I thought I might add a little bit.
I was just loving it! They went right in to my breakfast table.

I love this little project. I just love red!

Enjoy some color today =)
P. S. Today is my Birthday!!

Morel Mushroom Hunting...A Family Tradition

On Friday James, my dad and the boys went mushroom hunting or "Dry Land Fishing." My dad has hunted these mushrooms for years with his dad and brothers. It has almost become a competition to see who could find the most! Now that my Papaw J has passed on we are carrying on the tradition.

I had prior plans, so I sent them on to see what they could find.

You might be asking "what are Morel Mushrooms" and so I will let Google answer that for you. You might also be asking "how do you know which ones to pick because there are so many different kinds of mushrooms and some are poisonous." All I can say is that during this time of year while we are hunting there are no other mushrooms in the same area and we "just know."  We have hunted in the same place for many years. (cell phone pics)

It was really cool on Friday evening, so everyone had to bundle up a bit.

Dad knows just where to find them. He knows what trees that they grow near and also what side of the bank or hill.

The boys found some critters while in the great outdoors.

SALAMANDERS!! I yelled out a big EWWWW when I saw these pictures. The boys thought that they were the coolest!

The hunting was successful with 72 mushrooms found.

A few close up pictures of the mushrooms.
The boys and my daddy. Pretty sweet huh?

So, they found a bunch of mushrooms, explored in the great outdoors, got some exercise, spent time with daddy and papaw and the best part of all...
Nonie (my mom) cooked them for us yesterday! Yum!

Recipe: First of all she soaks them in several different pans of hot water (some people soak in hot salt water.)
She cuts the larger ones in half before she soaks them. Salt them, roll them in corn meal and fry slow in olive oil or vegetable oil. Enjoy!

I hope you have enjoyed hearing about it...

A Little More Springiness

I am so enjoying Spring! My yard has already been mowed and weeds have been pulled etc. Speaking of weeds I saw a sign somewhere the other day that said " PLEASE RING DOOR BELL..IF NO ANSWER START PULLING WEEDS"  =) now that's a thought!

There is a trailer of mulch in my yard so we can freshen things up a bit! It has been so nice here 60's 70's and up to 80 a time or two in the last week! This morning it is coming a thunder storm with heavy rains..

Cell phone pic =)
On Saturday we had our first official Spring clean up around here..the boys and I had weed, stick etc duty and James mowed the back yard.
It was a perfect day for working in the yard! I had found some Violas etc at Lowe's for .45 and .50 cents, so I have been planting in my pots =) I had a clay pot that was chipped, so I tried something new in the land scape.
The violas are purple, yellow and orange. I will post an updated picture when they are in full bloom.
Bradford Pears are in full bloom!

This was the view from my front door on Saturday.

I love the colors of Spring! My Peonies are coning up out of the ground, all of my lilies are up too. My creeping phlox are beautiful this year! I will grab a pic and share it in a day or two.

So, what have you been up to? Spring cleaning, planting your garden, flowers? Would love to hear from you!
