WWII Vet Celebrates 90 Years

On Saturday we celebrated 90 years with a WWII Veteran that has become a special part of our lives. Roy Scalf was an aid man in WWII and saved many of a man's life while serving. Mr. Scalf recently told James that he spent 14 months on the front line. He was there at Normandy and has many stories to tell. He was shot through both feet while rescuing an injured soldier and spent much time rehabilitating. He walks on both feet to this day.

Then
Now
Many friends and family came to celebrate his birthday on Saturday! Along with friends and family were local and state politicians, neighbors etc. It was a huge celebration with lots of food and desserts, pictures galore of times past and a table of war memories etc. The local DAV was present to honor him as well.

(I made the banner) He received several cards and some gifts. There was a guest book on the table for each person to sign.
He along with the DAV were recognized for their service to our country. There were Vietnam Vets, Korean War and Iraqi War Vets. There may have been some representing other wars as well.
Mr. Scalf was asked to lead the crowd in the Pledge Of Allegiance. His voice was strong and proud as he led the crowd in the pledge.

The table that was dedicated to war memorabilia consisted of all sorts of things. Pictures of his grandson who spent time serving in the current conflict and the hand carved rocking chairs made by Mr. Scalf were among the items.
An American flag, medals, his personal trunk from WWII, weapons etc
It was a wonderful time of celebration in honor of a true American hero!

I am so glad that you stopped by to share in this special post!
